Microwave-Assisted Electric Laboratory Furnace
CerMAT Microwave-Assisted Electric Laboratory Furnaces
Ceralink Inc, USA

Ceralink has licensed patented microwave assist technology from C-Tech Innovation in the UK. C-Tech developed and patented a method that combines microwaves heating with gas or electric heating. Ceralink holds the sole license for this technology in North America and can grant sublicenses to build furnaces. Ceralink is currently working with a large US furnace manufacturer to build a large scale (110 cubic ft) microwave assist electric elevator kiln. This technology has also been licensed to a furnace manufacturer in Japan and in the United Kingdom.

If you are interested in a CerMAT furnace, or a sub-license, please contact us for more information.

Benefits:

  • Process samples with radiant only, microwave-assisted or microwave only
  • Decreased process time, smaller furnace footprint
  • Improved properties, new materials production
  • Best energy efficiency, decreases cost of gas or electric only firing
  • Eliminates need for susceptors
  • Binder burnout, calcining, or sintering applications

Single Mode Microwave Unit
Gerling Applied Engineering, USA

A single mode microwave unit is an important research tool. The single mode unit is restricted to small samples sizes compared to the multimode units, but is useful to understand the heating characteristics of a material, e.g. is microwave heating promoted by the electric or magnetic portion of the wave? It is possible to process a larger quantity of material by adjusting the setup so that a continuous stream of material will pass through the waveguide.

Benefits:

  • High intensity microwave field (high Q cavity)
  • Separation of electric and magnetic field components
  • Isolation of microwave modes
  • Easier to map microwave field compared to multimode cavity

Maximum Temperature

1100 °C

Working Size

0.47" (diam) x 6"
12 (diam) x 152mm

Microwave Unit

- 2.45 GHz 1200 Watts
-Traveling or Standing wave modes
- Ambient Atmosphere

Controller

- Manual power control

Temperature Measurement

- Optical pyrometer

3 Liter Microwave Autoclave
Autoclave Engineers, USA

Ceralink is addressing the need for a large scale closed vessel microwave digestion unit. Microwave digestion, leaching, and synthesis is fast becoming an industry standard for rapid sample processing and new materials development. Previously, the lack of high capacity equipment made it difficult to scale-up these innovative processes. This unit makes it possible to digest, leach, or synthesize larger samples sizes for a greater processing efficiency.

This unit was built though a DOE grant in conjunction with Engelhard Corp.

Benefits:

  • Enhanced digestion, leaching, or synthesis
  • Process at temperatures above solvent boiling point
  • Increased throughput (larger sample size)
  • Rapidly and safely super-heat corrosive materials

Maximum Temperature

200 °C

Working Size

1 gal (11.1" x 6.8")
3 L (282 x 173 mm)

Microwave Unit

- 2.45 GHz 1000 Watts

Controller

- PC-based workstation
- Labview software

Temperature Measurement

- Thermocouple
