Transparent Alumina
Translucent alumina (TA) is used in the lighting industry for sodium
vapor lamps. TA is fired in a hydrogen atmosphere to 1800 ºC,
in order to achieve the necessary grain structure for translucency.
Microwave sintering of TA has been demonstrated at Ceralink, and
Penn State. Alumina couples with microwave energy directly at elevated
temperatures (above 1000 ºC).
Material: Ceramic
Chemical Formula: Al2O3
Properties: High strength, high temperature, translucent
