A Few Examples

Here are a few examples of our work:

The Fuel Cell Connection

Dr. Bruce Robertson, Ventures Manager of Engelhard Corporation, had the following to say about Ceralinking: "Engelhard Corporation, a Fortune 500 surface and materials science provider, came to Ceralink wanting to understand how to better utilize microwaves to recover precious metal catalysts from fuel cell substrates. In order to explore this idea fully, Engelhard needed to apply for a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) grant and was in search of an appropriate academic partner. Thanks to Ceralink, Engelhard was connected with a university (Virginia Tech) that was already doing work in the field; this enabled them to apply for the grant on a timely basis. As a result, Engelhard Corporation was awarded a $5 million, 5 year contract with the DOE with Ceralink having a critical role."

Inexpensive Lab-scale Microwave and Accessories

Ceralink assisted EPL Ceramics in establishing a joint venture company Research Microwave Systems (RMS). RMS' mission is to market a low cost 1.3 kW microwave system, the ThermWave, along with a wide variety of microwave accessories. The ThermWave is an advancement on technology from The Pennsylvania State University. Ceralink was interested in this technology because of the need for an "off the shelf" lab-scale microwave. Materials researchers can experiment with microwave heating, without wasting time reinventing the water cooled, temperature controlled kitchen microwave. The fact that RMS has also developed a line of accessories, such as susceptors, crucibles, and refractory packages that are microwave compatible, eliminates the uncertainty of "Will this melt down my microwave?" Researchers and home-hobbyists can use these accessories in a standard kitchen microwave.

Hybrid Technology -Opportunity for Furnace Manufacturers

Dr. Holly Shulman recognized the importance of a patented technology developed in the UK that combines microwaves with electric or gas heating. She investigated the technology and found that it may become extremely important for large-scale manufacturers of ceramics, glass and metal melting. The barrier in bringing this technology to industry was the need for a furnace manufacturer to license and use this technology for their customers. Ceralink has become the link between C-Tech Innovations in the UK and furnace manufacturers. Ceralink has the sole rights to market this technology in North America. The license includes a comprehensive technology transfer package from C-Tech. The first furnace sale could recoup this investment. If you are a furnace manufacturer or a furnace customer interested in this technology, contact us.
Ceralink's clients will need microwave assist furnaces!
